Your Statutes Forever

By Alma Norman

It's very sad to see so many stray before they have developed into the Christian that they could be. Some never learn the importance to gaining more faith. Without faith and love, Christ will not dwell in one's heart.

That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height-- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)

If a Christian wants to grow in his faith, first he must desire more faith. Without faith, one cannot survive as a Christian. Faith is so essential to one's Christianity that God has said without it, it was impossible to please Him.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Heb.11:6)

One must study to gain a better knowledge of God's word as He has commanded.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Tim. 2:15)

By commanding us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, God shows us its importance.

One will be drawn closer to God through His Word. A knowledge of God’s Word can help prevent an individual from falling away.

Now all  these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come (1 Cor.10:11)

Without a knowledge of God's Word one's battle against Satan is lost without much of a fight. He is completely defenseless, without the shield [breastplate] of faith.

But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation (1 Thess. 5:8)

One must allow His word to sink deep into his heart. He should meditate upon it's meaning.  By doing this, his faith will strengthen him in his daily Christian walk. In addition to hearing, one must also believe it with all his heart and be willing to act on this faith. Without one doing this, he'll have a dead faith without works. This type faith is not acceptable unto Him.

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (Jas. 3:26)

One must come to know Christ's love that passeth "knowledge" that he may be filled with the fullness of God. Christ will dwell within us by faith, being rooted and grounded with his love.

Christ fulfilled God's plan for man with his great sacrifice making salvation available to all who choose to obey him. God tells us one's reasonable sacrifice is to present his body as a living sacrifice.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. (Rom.12:1)

God does not ask more from one than he can do or give. For, this reason he has used this term "reasonable."

I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes forever, to the very end.  (Psalm 119:112)
