- 8 THE CHRISTIAN'S ROLE IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD
[The church in the world]
Wouldn't it have been wonderful if after having been born of water and of the Spirit (Jn.3:3-7), we would have been immediately caught up to Heaven to be forever with the Lord, and forever separated from the cares of this world? But that was not the plan of God; for Jesus prayed:
1. I pray not that thou shouldest take them ________of the _________, but that thou shouldest ____________ them from the _________ (Jn. 17:15).
Jesus told the Jews who were opposing Him:
2. "... Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are ____ ______ _________; I am ______ _____ _______ __________ (John 8:23).
Jesus said to His apostles:
3. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ___ ____ _____ ___ _____ __________, but I have ________ _____ _____ ______ ______ __________, therefore the world hateth you (John 15:19).
4. And we know that we are of God, and the ____________ ____________ lieth in____________ (1 Jn 5:19).
5. And this is the _______________, that __________ is come into the _________, and men loved ______________ _____________ ___________ ___________, because their deeds were evil (Jn 3:19).
6. But ye are a _____________ ____________, a __________ ___________, an ________ _____________, a ______________ ______________; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath ____________you ________ of darkness into his ________________ _____________ (1 Pet. 2:9).
7. What then, is the relationship between the Christian and the world?
8. List again the attributes of the church as Peter taught them in 1 Peter 2:9

9. Again: "God has called us out of ________________ into his _____________ ____________" (1 Pet. 2:9).
Read Matthew 5:14-16 and answer the following:
10. How did Jesus regard those who would be His disciples?
11. What were these disciples to do?
12. Why were the disciples to do this?
13. From the above passages, in your own words, tell why God ordained that Christians are left in this sinful world?
We have seen that the church is in the world but not of the world; and as such the Christian represents Christ to the world. When one sees a Christian he sees a sample of how believers are to behave.
14. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an ______________ of the ______________, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity (1 Tim 4:12).
Now we understand that the act of becoming a Christian is not an end in itself, but is rather the beginning of a life of service to God.
15. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.10 For we are his _____________, ___________ in Christ Jesus unto __________ ____________, which God hath before ___________ that we should ________ ____ _________ (Eph. 2:8-10).
16. From 2 Peter 1:1-4, of what have Christians become partakers?
17. How does 2 Peter 1:4 say they were able to do this?
18. What are the eight Christian graces that Peter then admonished Christians to add to their lives?

19. What was guaranteed them if they would do these things?
20. How does the apostle Peter sum up the adding of these graces in 2 Peter 3:18?
Read John 15:1-8
21. What did Jesus say the relationship was between Him and His disciples?
22. What would be the result if the disciples would abide in Him?
23. From Matthew's account of the Great Commission, Matthew 28:18-20, what do you see as being the duty of every Christian?
24. From Galatians 5:22, 23 what kind of "fruit" must be evident in the life of a Christian?
25. How long must a Christian be involved in bearing this fruit? (Rev. 2:10b).
26. Since Christians now serve as a kingdom of priests with Christ (1 Pet. 2:9), and since this service is to last throughout our entire lives, how does the apostle Paul sum up the duty of the Christian as a representative of the church in the world in Romans 12:1, 2?
27. What should be the Christians attitude toward worship? (Jn. 4:23, 24)
28. What should be the Christian's attitude toward the assemblies of the church (Heb. 10:24-31)?
29. What should be the Christians attitude toward daily Christian living (Heb. 12:28, 29)?
Congratulations! You have completed the Way of Salvation Course!
