Proverbs
31:10-31 are
the ABC’s of wisdom for a worthy woman. If we were able
to read Prov. 31:10-31 in Hebrew, we would notice
that the first word of each line begins with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet,
in order. The woman of Proverbs 31 was a woman of wisdom.
Godly wisdom can be seen in her everyday tasks, and in her
relationships with others.
“A
worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above
rubies.” The
kind of woman that is described in Proverbs 31:10-31
is hard to find, but when she is found, she is a treasure! Make
it your goal to be a godly treasure.
“The
heart of her husband trusts in her, and he shall have no lack of gain.”
A
worthy woman is trustworthy. God counts her among the
faithful, her husband trusts in her, her friends and neighbors can depend on
her. What are some characteristics that we should develop
that will give us a reputation of being trustworthy?
1.
Reliability: In
1
Timothy 3:11 we
find that one of the qualifications of a deacon’s wife is that she must be
faithful in all things. Being faithful in all things means
that in addition to being faithful in our spiritual obligations, we must be
faithful in everyday living. We are reliable; our family
and friends can depend upon us. This means if say we will
do something, we will follow through! We will make it a
habit to be on time for appointments. We will be faithful
to carry out various responsibilities.
2.
Honesty: There are many verses
that warn us of the serious nature of
lying: Proverbs
14:5, Ephesians
4:25, Revelation
21:8.
A trustworthy woman will always speak
the truth, seasoned with love.
We won’t omit information or deceive by keeping part of the truth
silent. We will not engage in flattery, (Psalm
12:2).
3.
Loyalty: A loyal woman will
not forsake her Lord, for the
sake of others. She will be loyal to her husband,
recognizing the life-long commitment of marriage (Romans
7:2).
She will not speak critically about her husband to others. She
is able to keep confidences (Proverbs
11:13).
If
we desire to be worthy women in God’s eyes, we should
study, in detail (Proverbs
31:10-31),
and make it a personal goal to pattern our lives after this woman of wisdom.
Satan is busy trying to tempt us with empty promises of happiness.
He uses worldly reasoning to try to convince
women that happiness is unattainable
within the role God has designed for us.
But God is our Creator, and only when we read and obey his “operating
manual” will we be able to function
properly, and thus experience true happiness and contentment in this life.
