Who Is The Son of Man?

By Nikki Derouin

Part 2

Christ was never afraid to state who He was or what His mission on earth was. He was the Son of God, sent to save the world, and he knew what His mission on this earth was.

His Identity:

Matthew 12:8: “The Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day”

John 6:27: “God the Father sealed the Son of man”

John 8:28: “The Son of man ... I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things”

John 13:31: “The Son of man is glorified, and God is glorified in him”

His Life:

Matthew 8:20: “Son of man hath not where to lay his head”

Matthew 11:19: “The Son of man came eating and drinking ... but wisdom is justified of her children”

Luke 11:30: “The Son of man [is a sign] to this generation”

His Power:

Matthew 9:6: “Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins”

Matthew 16:27: “The Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and shall reward every man according to his works”

Luke 12:40: “The Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not”

His Mission:

Mark 8:31: “And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.”

Matthew 26:45: “The Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners”

Luke 19:10: “The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost”

Mark 10:45: “The Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many”

To the very end of his earthly ministry Jesus displayed the character of God’s chosen servant. He did not back down from His assigned charge. With only hours left on this earth, Jesus answered the very question of his dual nature. And with one sentence He quoted the prophet Daniel and sentenced Himself to death in order that He, the Son of God and man, could give us eternal life.

“But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, ‘Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?’ And Jesus said, ‘I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.’” Mark 14:61f
