Psalm 5 gives us a glimpse
of the anquish David felt because of the wickedness of those around him.
One of the
hardest lessons to learn is that we really can’t be friends with the world.
In our sixteen years of marriage, my husband and I have been let down so
many times by people of the world who claimed to be our friends, yet who
turned against us when that better suited their needs.
We have four children
and we have been very involved in their extracurricular activities. We
have volunteered hours and hours of time. Time and again we are abandoned by
those who are supposed to be helping us. We have oftentimes found
ourselves very alone. It is in these times that we remind ourselves of what
is really important. We ask ourselves, "What is our purpose here?"
We are to be about our
Father’s business. When Jesus prayed for his disciple's, he said that the
world hated them because He had given them the Word. Jesus prayed for their
protection from evil because they had to stay in the world, even though they
were not of the world. (JN 17:14-16)
In 1 Johnn, He warns
us not to love the world. We cannot get too attached to this world. We need to
surround ourselves with our brothers and sisters of like mind. (Heb 10:25)
We need to.......
......strive
to encourage one another,
....to
hold fast
.....and
to trust God just as David did so long ago.
