Saul
being lifted up with pride rebelled against God. God
removed His Holy Spirit from Saul and sent him instead a troubling spirit.
God anointed David to be king in Saul’s place. Saul
wanted to kill David. David escaped so that he would not
be killed.
David
fled to Samuel for help. Saul sent his men to Samuel with
orders to take David. When they approached Samuel and the
prophets, God caused Saul’s men to start prophesying. Determined,
Saul sent another group of men to find and to bring back David. The Spirit
of God also came up this group and they began prophesying as they neared
Samuel and the prophets. Undaunted, Saul himself
went to find David. Can you guess what happened as he
drew near to Samuel and the prophets? Yes, he too began
to prophecy. Not only did he prophecy but he tore off His clothes and lay
down naked for 24 hours. (Taken from 1
Samuel 15 and 18)
Saul
lifted himself up in pride and God brought him down in humiliation.
Saul got off easy in comparison to Nebuchadnezzar.
…A
voice fell from heaven: "King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the
kingdom has departed from you! And they shall drive you from men, and your
dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat
grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that
the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He
chooses." (Daniel 4:31b-32)
God
rules today in His kingdom, the church, and in our lives individually as
Christians. Let us empty ourselves of ourselves and
submit to Him free of pride.
