WFS-7  Truth, Honesty and Integrity

Text:  Proverbs 6:16-19 - 16)These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  17)A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  18)An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running into mischief,  19)A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”

  1.  In reading the above passage we learn about truth, nonesty and integrity.  Now take these verses and explain what they teach us concerning truth, honesty and integrity.

  2.  In John 8:44 we find that there is a father of lies.  Quoted the verse and tell who the father of lies is.

  3.  Where in John does it tell us who is truth and life?

God is a God of truth, as we see often in scripture.

  4.  Deuteronomy 32:4 - “___ ___ the ______, his work is perfect:  for all his ways are ________: a God of ________ and __________ ___________, ______ and _______ is he.”

  5.  Isaiah 65:15 - “That he blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the _____ of _______; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the _____ of _______; because the former troubles are forgotten and because they hid from mine eyes.”

Truth is an essential part of a walk with God type life.  The New Testament tells us that Jesus Christ is truth,  II Corinthians 1:18-20:

 18) “But as _____ is _____, our word toward you was not yea and nay.  19) For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus was not yea and nay, but in ______ was _____.  20)For all the ___________ of _____ in him _______ ______ , and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”

Obviously as Christians, the children of God, we must also be true, honest and have integrity as a part of our lives, as is displayed of the disciples in the above verses.  We should be known in all circles of our lives as one who is trustworthy and a person of our word.  Remember always that our words will be judged by God.

  6.  Matthew 12:36 - “But I say unto you, That _______ ______ _______ that men ______ _______, they ______ _____ ________ _____ in the _____ of judgment.”

A very awakening thought if we read this verse with open eyes and an open heart!  At least, it should be an awakening one for us.  We should awake to the fact that our words better be those of a child of God if for heaven we seek.

Let’s take time here to look at several scriptures that show just how much truthfulness is a part of the Lord:

  7.  John 14:6 - “. . . I am ____  _____, ____ ______, and ______ _______. . .”

 8.  John 15:26 - “But when the __________ is come, whom I send unto you from the ________, even the ________ of _________, which proceeded from the ________, he shall _________ of me.”

  9.  John 16:13 - “Howbeit when he, the ________ of _______, is come, he will _______ you into all _______: for he shall not speak of himself: but whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.”

I Timothy 3:15 even tells us the church is the pillar and ground of the truth, therefore, we can conclude that so should its members be.

 10.  I Timothy 3:15 -”But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know _____ thou oughtest to ________ _________ of God, which is _____ _________ of the ________ _____, the _______ and ________ of the _______.”

If God, Jesus, the Comforter and even the church are the pillars of truth then it doesn’t take a very big leap to see that Satan, being the father of lies (John 8:44) is not the example a Christian wants to follow.  Satan uses lies and liars to get his way, look at what he told Eve in the garden:

 11.  Genesis 3:1-4 -  1)”Now the serpent was more _______ than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.  And he said unto the woman, ____, hath _____ said, Ye shall _____ ______ of _______ _______ of the garden?  2) And the woman said unto the serpent,  We _____ _____ of the fruit of the trees of the garden:  3)But of the _______ of the ______ which is ____ _____ _______ of the ________, God ______ ______, ____ ______ _____ eat of it, ________ ______ ___ ______ ___, lest ye die.  4)And the serpent ______ unto the woman, ___ _______ _____ surely ______.”

Satan will use any means available to him to turn the world and yes, even a child of God, to him and away from God.  No big leap here either for the Christian to see that God hates liars and that all liars will find themselves lost in the lake of fire:

 12.  Revelation 21:8 - “But fearful and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and _____ _______, _______ have their _______ in the _______ which _______ with _____ and _________: which is the second death.”

Christians were never promised a rose garden!  In truth we are told that we will suffer persecution and be tempted and tried.  The Lord knows it is easy to fall back into old ways but He is always there if we will ask for His help and we have the promise He will provide a way for us to overcome:

 13.  I Corinthians 10:13 - “There hath ___ ___________ taken you but such as is ________ to ____: but God is _________, who ______ ______ _______ _____ to be _________ above that ye are ______; but ______ with the _____________ also make a ______ to _________, that ye may be _______ to _______ ____.”

We have to be willing to work at being a Christian in all ways, being truthful, honesty and known for our integrity is what we work toward always.

 14.  To bring this lesson to a close let us set our minds on truth, honesty and integrity and go to Strong's or Bible Gateway and find scriptures that show how the Christian to should be truthful, honest and have integrity.   List what you find here with the notation by it as to whether it teaches to be truthful, honest or have integrity.

My prayer for all of us as we study this lesson is that it enforces the Biblical evidence we found to the importance of being truthful and honest in all things.  In so doing, it will bring us closer to God and will prove to be a shining light unto the world.  May God teach us to fly on wings as eagles!
