Walk In Newness of Life

By Beverly Rainwater

Therefore we are buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)

We are so blessed to have a means by which we can rid ourselves of our old lives of sin. After we put Christ on in baptism, we are able to then walk in newness of life. Baptism buries us in water, signifying His death on the cross and wipes our slates clean of sin. We then are raised up, as He was raised up from the tomb having victory over death, and we are able to begin our walk with Him in a new clean life. As death severs us from the natural life so this death should sever us from our relationship with sin.

That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:22-24)

We should now be ready and willing to walk with Christ in a newness of life. Walking in newness of life entails sharing the gospel of Christ.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)

We must study work for and pray to Him who can lead us and give us help in every situation we may encounter.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2Timothy 2:15)

Pray without ceasing. (2 Thessalonians 5:17)

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way o f escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

There are so many Scriptures in the Word of God that promise us help to walk in the newness of life and that will give us strength and courage to stand strong and hold up His cross daily. All we have to do is open the pages of His Holy Word and find all that is needed to be successful in our new walk with Him.

Remember to look to His Word, not the traditions and opinions of men to find the tools you need to be His child. Be faithful to the end so that you can be with Him in heaven for all eternity.
