Habakkuk, the Prophet asked God a question, and then he said:
"
I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart,
And watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am
corrected." (Hab. 2:1)
The prophet of the Old Testament had to wait for the Lord to reply and to tell him what He would do next.
In the days before Christ came and died on the cross, and was raised from the dead, and ascended back to Heaven to sit on the right hand of God (Matt. 27:45-50; Matt. 28:1-8; Acts 1:9-11; Acts 2:33) God spoke through prophets like Habakkuk and the people had to wait to hear what the Lord would say to the prophet. (Heb. 1:1-2)
Today we have the written Word of God
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
We can know what God says to us today by studying His Word, The Holy Bible.
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Tim. 2:15).
We can know the truth through His Word, we do not have to wait for Him to tell a prophet what He wants us to do (John 8:32).
God sent His Son down to earth to save us (John 3:16-17; also read John 1:1-14). The only way to the Father is through His Son (John 14:6). The Father has given all power to the Son (Matt. 28:18-20). We must obey the Son (John 14:15).
Those who have obeyed His Son are waiting for the Lord to return and take them home to be with the Father (John 14:1-3). They know not when He will come (Matt. 24:42) but they wait patiently and remain faithful until He comes or until death (James 5:7-8; Matt. 10:22; 2 Peter 3:14-18).
Those who wait for the Lord, find in the Lord:
· Strength (Ps. 27:14)
· Help (Ps. 33:20)
· Rest (Ps. 37:7; Matt. 11:28-29),
· Hope (Ps. 39:7),
· Salvation (Phil. 3:20-21)
