The Upright
By Sandy Ditoro

LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle?  Who may dwell in Your holy hill?   He who walks uprightly and works righteousness.... (Psalms 15:1-2)

Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment, But a man of understanding walks uprightly. Proverbs 15:21

Do you walk uprightly?

The synonyms for uprightly are: honest, just , conscientious, scrupulous, honorable.  If you walk uprightly, you have and show a strict regard for what is morally right.  You adhere to such virtues as truthfulness, candor, fairness.  You have an active moral sense which governs your actions. You make a painstaking effort to follow your conscience. You have a high sense of honor and duty.  The Lord highly regards the upright.  Here is what is said about the upright in the scripture:

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. (Ps. 84:11)

He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; Proverbs 2:7

What are the blessings that come to those who walk uprightly?  The upright will abide in his Tabernacle and dwell in His holy hill.  The LORD will uphold nothing that is good from the upright.  God supplies the upright with a storehouse of wisdom. He protects them from satan’s darts.

The upright are  a “light set on a hill” and “the salt of the earth.”  The upright, bear the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control .  The beauty that is within the heart of the upright shines in his eyes and lights his countenance.  God gives  grace and glory to the upright.

We live in an area where most people are members of  one particular religious cult.  Many of the people here have never been exposed to any other religion.  They value high morals.  As we live our lives amongst these people, we are so aware of the importance of the impression we make as we have dealings with them.

I pray for God to give us grace and glory that will draw these people to us, so that we can draw them to Him and to the Truth.  I pray that we can walk so upright amongst these people that they will come to question their beliefs and turn to the Bible.

How about where you live, do others observe the grace and glory God has given you?  Do they see you as one who is upright?
