Thought Questions:

A. Questions 3 and 11 bring to mind situations similar to each. To what events are the respective questions similar ?

3. reminds me of Abraham and Lot, Gen. 13:6-11

reminds me of Mary pondering the things Jesus said when He was lost in Jerusalem, Lk 2:48-51

B. The family of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob seem to have a lot of problems with lying, deceit, and general trickery. However, as we have discussed God can still use sinful man to achieve His purpose just the same. In light of that, which of the 12 sons is in the direct line of Jesus? Judah.

Why do you think Judah might have had a problem raising sons that weren’t wicked? Where did he get a wife? From the Canaanites again. Maybe that is why his sons were wicked.

That doesn’t mean that he approves of the way they are behaving. Find a verse that describes the things God hates. Prov 6:16-19

C. Thoughts: I am glad that God gives us fresh chances every day to try again. He was extremely patient with the family of Abraham and we will continue to see this in our studies about the Israelite nation. We also will learn about God’s wrath because when we disobey Him or become wicked He pours out His wrath as in the case of the sons of Judah. It is very interesting to note which one of Judah’s sons is in the direct line of Christ. It is Perez, the son of Tamar, not Shelah. Lk.3:33 Most people like to focus on God’s love and forgiveness and He is a very compassionate God, but He can also be a very angry God when we turn away from Him.
