Thought Questions:

A. What problems were caused again by people trying to help God out? Even though God could bring His will about with whatever people try to do, there was a lot of pain caused once again by their ‘help’. It was already God’s will for Jacob to be the one through which the blessing would come, but it caused pain and fear for the people involved at the time. However, once again God used it for good and brought about His will. We must learn to be patient and wait for His timing, not ours.

B. Sometimes when we read these stories, it doesn’t seem quite fair; however, look closely at Esau and see if you can see why, as we look at the big picture, God chose Jacob over Esau. Esau’s heart was not as pure. The women he chose and his disregard for his parents' feelings show his lack of consideration, in my opinion. It seems that it took him a long time to recognize their disapproval. We must remember that God looks at the heart and sees things that we cannot see. “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” I Sam 16:7

C. Thoughts: Once again God shows His power, wisdom, and ability to use weak and sinful men to do His will when they give Him their trust and faithfulness.
