Thought Questions:

A.  How were all people of the earth to be blessed through Abram? The Israelite nation came from Abram and through the Israelite nation Christ came into the world. His birth, death, burial, and resurrection offers salvation to all those who will obey Him and be baptized into Christ. Romans 6:3-4 (all of Romans talks about the Jewish law and faith and us as Christians today).

B.  How could a man like Abram with such faith as to trust God when He told him to leave without knowing where he was going ( Heb 11:8), show such weakness by asking Sarai to lie to keep from risking his life? Why didn’t he trust God in this as well? How did God use Abram’s weakness to bring glory for Himself and continue to bless Abram? (Rom 8:28) Abram was a man with weaknesses just like you and I. I think God continually shows us how He can use anyone, regardless of his weaknesses, who loves and trusts Him. God also shows us how He can bring good out of anything bad. He proved His power to Pharoah and his household and demonstrated His displeasure at Abram’s actions. Abram also gained much in possessions from Pharoah as he was trying to woo Sarai and then later get rid of her. God showed Abram His power and His forgiveness.

C.  Where in the New Testament do we hear of a priest named Melchizedek again? Heb. 7:1-10.

D.  Your thoughts? I think it is very interesting and encouraging that God can use us in spite of our weaknesses. I love Psalms 51 where David pours out his heart to God in remorse for his sin. As long as we have life we have hope and we should continually seek His favor. Every day is new and we can start over daily. That is such an encouragement to me. I think if I didn’t have these examples of how God uses ordinary sinful men to do His will, I would want to give up. However, He is God and able to see me through and help me overcome anything. Matt 19:26, I John 4:4
