Lesson 15

We are now returning in our study to the book of Genesis.  We are about to begin the life of Abraham and the history of the Israelite people. Remember that God had a plan from the beginning for man. God created man and knew what he would do and had a design to provide for man in the world He had created. God has always wanted fellowship with man, but He also wanted us to choose Him and not be puppets with no choice. The Israelite nation was for the sole purpose of bringing Jesus into this world. There are many things as we study these people that are shadow or representation of things to come.

There is much to learn about the nature of God. Heb 13:8 says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever just as God is.  It is also important to remember that Jesus was with God before He came to earth as Jn. 1:1 says.  It is very important to be sure we understand the big picture as we grow in His word. Studying chronologically will help us to see the big picture. All of time points towards Jesus. God always intended to save all mankind through Him.

Thought Questions:

A.  How were all people of the earth to be blessed through Abram?

B.  How could a man like Abram with such faith as to trust God when He told him to leave without knowing where he was going ( Heb 11:8), show such weakness by asking Sarai to lie to keep from risking his life? Why didn’t he trust God in this as well? How did God use Abram’s weakness to bring glory for Himself and continue to bless Abram? (Rom 8:28)

C.  Where in the New Testament do we hear of a priest named Melchizedek again?
