Lesson 7

ANSWERS

II-FF017

Exodus 25-31

1.  As we begin to read about God's blueprints for the tabernacle, what does the heart of worship begin with in Exodus 25:2?  "Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering."

Something to consider: Is it possible that we can see God's provision when we look at the things that the Egyptians gave willingly and freely to the Israelites? [13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. (Gen 15:13-14)]
The same items that were given to the Israelites are used in the building of the tabernacle. Slaves, as the Israelites had been, would not have had all of these things.

2.  Why did God want them to build a sanctuary? So that He could dwell among them. 25:8

3.  What were they to put into the ark that He commanded them to build? The Testimony that He would give them. 25:16,21

4. What was the purpose of the ark with the mercy seat on top? A place to meet with God. 25:22

5. What was the purpose of the table? To hold the showbread that would be set before God always. 25:30

8.  What other type of curtain was placed on the inside of the tabernacle?  A linen veil. 26:31

9.  What was its purpose? To be a divider between the Holy place and the Most Holy. 26:33

10.  What was to go behind the veil and what was in front? The mercy seat upon the ark of Testimony went behind the veil and the table and the lampstand were outside the veil. 26: 34-35

11.  What large piece of furniture was then made to go in the Tabernacle?  An altar. 27:1

12.  What special command was given about the lampstand? Use pure oil of pressed olives so that it would burn continually. 27:20

13.  Who was to tend the tabernacle of meeting outside the veil? Aaron and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar , Ithamar. 27:21-28:1

14.  For what were they to make the holy garments?  Glory and beauty. 28:2

16.  What was the special name of the breastplate? The breastplate of judgment. 28:15 {or decision in some versions.}

17.  What was the purpose of this breastplate that Aaron wore?  He bore the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate over his heart as a memorial before the Lord. The Urim and the Thummim were to be put in the breastplate so they would be over Aaron's heart when he went in before the Lord. In so doing, he would bear the judgement of the children of Israel before the Lord continually. 28:29-30

Note: The Urim and Thummim were used by Aaron to determine God's will.

From Strong's: Urim = "lights". Thummim = "perfections". The Urim and Thummim were kept in the high-priest's breastplate and used at times to determine God's will.

18.  What preparations had to be made before Aaron and his sons could go in to serve? Aaron was first to be made ready including his head being anointed with oil, then his sons were to be prepared to serve. They all had to be washed and then clothed with the special garments. 29: 4-7

19.  What animals were sacrificed and for what purpose? A bull as a sin offering, a ram as a burnt offering, a second ram to consecrate Aaron and his sons and as a wave and a burnt offering. 29:10,14, 15,18,19-25

26.  With what was the tabernacle and all of the utensils, etc. to be anointed? Holy anointing oil. 30:25

27.  How did the LORD fill Bezalel with wisdom, understanding, knowledge and all workmanship to design and make all of these things? He filled him with the Spirit of God. 31 :1-5

28.  What was the purpose of the Sabbath? A sign between God and the Israelites throughout their generations, that they may know that He is the LORD who sanctified them . 31:13

Thought Question:

As we read through these very detailed descriptions and commands in the Old Testament, how do you think God feels about the details of worship and do you think He has changed?

We are no longer required to sacrifice animals; however, God has not changed one bit in His attention to detail. He has given us by direct command and example everything we need to know about how to worship Him.  II Pet 1:2-4 tells us that we have been given everything that pertains to life and godliness. Nothing is missing.  In I Cor 14:26-39, He tells us exactly what H e expects from us during worship. He really leaves nothing to chance or to our interpretation as some might claim. This is the same God of Israel. He does NOT change.
