Thought Questions:

A.  What common sense lessons can we learn from Jethro? God expects us to serve as we are able, but He does not expect us to do it all. Everyone is expected to serve, so it is good for us to share in our service to the Lord. Acts 6 gives us this very example. There was too much work for the apostles alone. They appointed men to help so that they could be about the preaching of the gospel . Today we still have deacons who take care of the day-to-day business, as in Acts 6, and elders to oversee and care for the flock. We also still have evangelists who preach the gospel. Everyone has a job to do so that no one is overwhelmed.

B. Why is obedience to God necessary? To be pleasing to Him and receive His blessings. It easy to see this as we study the Old Testament and God repeatedly says, "Obey Me and I will bless you." Eph 1:3 says He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ . We must first acquire faith by hearing (Rom 10:17), believing (John 3:16), repenting (Acts 2:38), and confessing (Rom 10:10), and being baptized (Mark 16:16). THEN, we must continue steadfast I cor 15:58, Rev 2:10. We must be obedient to Him!!!! Eph 5 :3-7 gives us a list of unacceptable activities. Verse 10 and following says we are to find out what is acceptable and have nothing to do with the works of darkness. Let us continue to study in an effort to "find out what is acceptable," so that we might obey and be pleasing to Him.
