Exodus 13-17
1. Why did Moses say the Israelites should "Remember this day….?" To remember that it was the Lord's strength and power that brought them out of Egypt. 13:3
2. Why was the first-born among the Israelites to be sanctified/consecrated? It was a sign to remind them how the Lord dealt with the Egyptians and that it was He who brought them out of Egypt. 13:16
3. Why did God not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines? They might change their minds when they saw war and go back to Egypt. 13:17
4. What did Moses take with them? He took the bones of Joseph . 13:19 Note : Gen 50:24-26
5. How were they led by day? A pillar of cloud.
By night? A pillar of fire. 13:21
6. What was the reaction of the Israelites when they saw that the Egyptian army was chasing them? They were very afraid and cried out to the Lord. 14:10
7. What was Moses' answer to their fear and complaints? Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. 14:13
8. What did God tell Moses to do with his rod? Stretch it out over the sea and divide it . 14:16
9. How did God separate the Israelites from the Egyptians that night? An Angel of God went behind them and the pillar of God went before them leaving darkness and a cloud behind on the Egyptian s and light on the side of the Israelites. 14:19-20
10. What did God use to separate the waters? Moses lifted up his rod and stretched out his hand over the sea .14:16,21 .
11. Did the Egyptians pursue them into the sea and what happened to them? Yes and the Egyptians were drowned. 14:23,27-28
12. What was the purpose of the song the children of Israel sang? To praise and thank God and to declare His power. 15:1-19
13. Who led the women in song? Miriam. 15:20
14. What was the complaint at Marah? Bad water. 15:23
15. What promise did God make to the Israelites? If they would keep His commandments and do what is right, He would bring none of the diseases on them that He brought on the Egyptians. 15:26

17. What was their next complaint? Hunger, no meat. 16:3
18. How did God solve this problem? He sent manna in the morning and quail s in the evening. 16:13-14
19. What was different on the sixth day from the rest of the week? They were to collect double in preparation for the Sabbath day when they were to do no work. 16:22
20. What happened if they gathered too much manna? It went bad. 16:20
21. God fed them this way throughout their wanderings. In what way were they to remember? By filling an omer with manna for future generations to see. 16:32
22. Where did they camp next and what was the problem there? Rephidim ; no water. 17:1
23. What did God tell Moses to do in order for the people to have water? Strike the rock. 17:6
24. What names were given to this place and why? Massah and Meribah because they were contentious again with the Lord. 17:7
25. Who did the Israelites fight with and who led them? Amalekites; Joshua. 17:9
26. How did they prevail? When Moses lifted up his hands they won and when he put them down they lost, so they gave him a stone to sit on and Aaron and Hur held up Moses' hands until the Israelites prevailed. 17:11-12
27. What promise did God make concerning the Amalekites? They will be utterly blotted out (remember this for future study). 17: 14
28. What did Moses name the place where he built an altar? Why? The-LORD-Is-My-Banner because of God's promise concerning the Amalekites. 17:15-16
