[READ THE ENTIRE CHAPTER]

1. What did God say He made Moses to Pharaoh?

Ans.: A god.

2. Who, then, was prophet to Moses?

ans.: Aaron.

3. What did God say He would do to Pharaoh's heart?

Ans.:  He would harden it.

4. What does the Bible say naturally results when one does not believe the truth? (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12)

Ans.:  Because they received not a love for the truth that they might be saved, God shall send them a strong delusion (working of error) that they may believe a lie.

5. If one refuses to believe the truth, what is left for him to believe?
Ans.:  A lie.

Those who refuse to believe truth have only one other thing to believe. This may be regarded as heart-hardening. One who does not stand for the truth does not stand with God. One commentator wrote:

[I will harden Pharaoh's heart]
I will permit his stubbornness and obstinacy still to remain, that I may have the greater opportunity to multiply my wonders in the land, that the Egyptians may know that I only am Jehovah, the self-existent God. See the note at Ex 4:21.

6. How old were Moses and Aaron at the time they confronted Pharaoh?
Ans.:  Moses Four score (80).
Ans.:   Aaron Four score and three (83).

7. What evidence did God have Moses and Aaron use when they confronted Pharaoh?
Ans.:  Aaron cast down his rod before Moses and it became a serpent.

8. How did Pharaoh respond to this miracle?
Ans.:  His magicians did in like manner with their enchantments and cast down their rods and they became serpents.

9. How did Moses and Aaron prevail?
Ans.:  Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.

10. Now what was the condition of Pharaoh's heart?
Ans.:  Hardened.

11. What was the next sign God used to show Pharaoh His power, this was the first of ten plagues against Pharaoh's Egypt.
Ans.:  Water turned to blood.

12. How did Pharaoh's magicians respond this time?
Ans.:  They were also able to do this.

13. For how long was the river in this condition after the Lord had smitten it.
Ans.:   Seven days.

Pharaoh again opposed God, so we can see that when the Bible says Pharaoh hardened his heart, he was actually hardening his own heart by rejecting God.
There is a "physical law" which illustrates this principle. God made our bodies so that after constant injury to a body part, that part becomes numb. Since God made our bodies like that one may say that "God numbed my thumb after I hit it with a hammer so many times." The spiritual equivalent of this may be, "God hardened my heart after I rejected His word so many times."

14. What did the writer of Hebrews say was possible to happen to Christians (Heb. 3:13-19)?
Ans.:   Their hearts may become hardened.
