ANSWERS
[Read chapter 20]
1. How did God identify Himself to Moses (vs.2)?
Ans.: I am the Lord thy God which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
2. What was the first commandment?
Ans.: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
3. What kind of God did God say He was (vs.5)?
Ans.: I the Lord thy God am a jealous God.
4. What is meant by “taking the name of the Lord in vain”?
Ans.: There are many ways of violating this commandment. At the head of the list, because of its prevalence, is common, profane, vulgar swearing. This has been called "the sin without temptation." It satisfies no appetite, achieves no benefit for the swearer, does not commend itself to any person whomsoever, and is as foolish and ridiculous a sin as any ever committed. It is invariably a sign of a weak and ineffectual vocabulary, a mark of vulgarity, an evidence of disrespect, resentment, or frustration, and a sign of irreligion and unbelief.
There are other forms of "taking God's name in vain."
(1) There is hypocrisy, in which God is spoken of but not in sincerity. The man who says, "Lord, Lord" but does not do God's will is profane.
(2) The performance of actions "in the name of God," which, in fact, are NOT commanded by Him is also profanity. The example of the sons of Sceva illustrates this (Acts 19:13).
(3) Frivolity may also be profanity. Isaiah denounced this practice, saying, "(They) make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth nor in righteousness (Isa. 48:1).
It is especially deplorable that some people in public life today are guilty of disobeying the will of God in this particular.
[J.B. Coffman commentary]
It is also not uncommon to hear members of the Lord’s church exclaim, “O, my God!” in order to show surprise.
5. What is meant by “Honor they father and thy mother” (vs. 12)?
Ans.: Respect them as being honorable and care for them when they are in need in their advanced age (Matthew 15:4-9).
6. What was the first commandment with promise (Ephesians 6:1-3)?
Ans.: Honor they father and mother.
7. What promise attends those who obey the command listed in #6?
Ans.: That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
8. What did the people see that caused them to tremble and stand afar off?
Ans.: Thundering and lightening and the noise of the trumpet and the mountain smoking.
9. What request did the people make of Moses after witnessing the above?
Ans.: They wanted Moses to speak with them and not God, lest they should die.
10. From where did God say He talked with Moses?
Ans.: Heaven.
11. Why did god not want the priests to go up to His altar by steps?
Ans.: So their nakedness would not be discovered thereon.
12. Was God particular how those who approached His altar to worship Him were clothed?
Ans.: Yes.
13. Today, who are the ones who approach God in worship?
Ans.: His church.

Note about clipart: We do not know what Jesus, or angels or any Bible character looks like. We use pictures to represent Bible people and places to help the children to relate to the story. Please explain to your child that no one knows what any of it looked like except from what we read about in the Bible or in history books.
