1. In Moses' song, who did he say was cast into the Red sea?
Ans.: Pharaoh's chariots and his host.
2. How is the holding back of the waters described?
Ans.: And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea (Ex 15:8).
3. What peoples and nations would hear of these things and as a result fear and dread would be upon them?
Ans.: The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina. 15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. 16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased (Ex 15:14-16).
4. How does verse 20 refer to Miriam?
Ans.: Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron.
5. What problem developed when they had gone three days into the wilderness?
Ans.: They could not drink from the waters of Mara because they were bitter.
6. What was the solution to the problem?
Ans.: The Lord showed Moses a tree, which when he cast it into the waters they became sweet.
7. What promise did the Lord make to them if they would obey Him?
Ans.: They would suffer none of the diseases which He brought upon the Egyptians.
8. Where did the Lord then lead them, and what was there for them?
Ans.: Elim. Twelve wells of water and three score and ten palm trees. (A “score” is 20; so three score and ten would be 70.)
