QUESTIONS
and ANSWERS
FROM GENESIS 27
(Read the chapter)
1. According to the prophecy of Genesis
25:23, which of the children in Rebekah's womb would be the
servant?
ans.:
The elder, Esau (vs. 25)
2. Which then, would be entitled to the
birthright?
ans.:
Jacob
3. From chapter 27:1-4 what did Isaac
desire to give to Esau?
ans.:
The blessing
4. What did Isaac want Esau to do before
he would give it to Esau?
ans.: Take his
weapons, quiver and bow and take some venison (wild game)
and make savory (tasty) meat liked by Isaac so he might eat
it and then give the blessing to Esau.
5. When Rebekah heard what Isaac wanted to
do, what was her plan?
ans.:
She sent Jacob to the
flock for two kids of the goats and she would make the
savory meat that Isaac loved so Jacob could bring it to his
father and receive the blessing.
6. Why did Jacob object?
ans.: Jacob
thought Isaac would know the difference between he and Esau,
for Jacob was smooth and Esau was hairy.
7. How did Rebekah deceive Isaac?
ans.:
She put skins of the kids
of the goats on his hands and neck so he would feel hairy to
Isaac.
8. Why did Isaac want the boy to come near
so he could touch him?
ans.: The voice
of the boy was Jacob's voice; but when he touched him he
felt like Esau.
9. When Esau came in Isaac realized what
Jacob had done, what was Isaac's response? (vs 33- 36)
ans.: And Isaac
trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that
hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of
all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he
shall be blessed. 34 And when Esau heard the words of his
father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and
said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.
35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath
taken away thy blessing. 36 And he said, Is not he rightly
named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he
took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away
my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing
for me?
10. What was Esau's attitude toward Jacob?
ans.: Esau hated
Jacob
11. What did Esau determine to do?
ans.:
Esau said in his heart, the days of
mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my
brother Jacob.
Thought question:
Since Esau said this "in
his heart" how do you suppose Rebekah "heard it"?
ans.: Just as God revealed to her that the elder
would serve the younger (Gen. 25:23) God must have also
revealed this to her for the preservation of Jacob.
