(Genesis chapter 19)

ANSWERS

1. What act of hospitality did Lot show to the two who came to Sodom at evening?

Ans: He offered to give them shelter in his own house.

2. You've read the chapter, why do you think Lot did not want them to stay in the street all night?

Ans: To protect them from being assaulted by the evil men of the city.

3. Since this is what the men of the town wanted, what did Lot offer them instead so as to protect those who came into his house for safety?

Ans: His own two daughters.

4. How did the "men" in the house defend against those who were at the door?

Ans: They struck them with blindness.

5. Why did the men instruct Lot to take his family out of the city? (verse 13)

Ans: "For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it."

6. Who would not leave?

Ans: Lot's sons-in-law.

7. Why would they not leave?

Ans: But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.

8. What one word described what Lot did when the angels told him to leave?

Ans: Lingered.

9. How did the angels get the family out of the city?

Ans: They took them by the hand and led them out.

10. What did the angels tell them NOT to do? (verse 17)

Ans: Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain.

11. Who disobeyed that command?

Ans: Lot's wife.

12. What happened to the one who disobeyed?

Ans: She turned into a pillar of salt.

13. To what city did they flee?

Ans: Zoar.

14. What were the names of the children born to Lot's daughters by him?

Ans: Moab & Ben-Ammi.

15. What nations descended from these two children?

Ans: Moab & Ammon.

16. Locate them on a Bible map and describe their location.

Ans: Ammon is northeast of the Dead Sea and Moab is southeast of the Dead Sea.

17. What nation now exists in those areas?

Ans: Jordan.
