Genesis chapter 18

(Biblical references taken from the NKJV)

 

 

1. Who were the three men that Abraham saw?

          Answer: The LORD and two angels

 

2. How did Abraham greet them?

          Answer: ... he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground.

 

3. How did Abraham extend hospitality toward these visitors? (A brief answer here)

          Answer: He provided water to wash their feet and had a meal prepared for them.

 

4. "And I will bring a morsel of _______. that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant." They said, "Do as you have said." (Gen 18:5)

The Hebrew word for the answer in #4 is lechem (lekh'-em), "bread; meal; food; fruit." (from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, Copyright (c)1985, Thomas Nelson Publishers)

          Answer: bread

 

5. Read what was prepared and tell what was actually brought for them to eat.

          Answer: Cakes of meal, butter (curds of cheese), milk, and a dressed calf.

 

6. What question did they ask Abraham?

          Answer: Where is Sarah, your wife?

 

7. What promise did He make to Abraham?

          Answer: "I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son." (Gen 18:10)

 

8. How did Sarah react to this promise?

          Answer: She laughed.

 

9. Why did Sarah react this way?

          Answer: (Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.) 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing. 12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?" (Gen 18:10-12)

 

10. What was the Lord's response (vs. 14)

          Answer: "Is anything too hard for the LORD?"

 

11. Where were the men headed after their visit with Abraham and Sarah?

          Answer: Sodom

 

12. What points did the Lord know about Abraham that prompted the Lord to tell Abraham what He planned to do to Sodom? (Two major points From vs. 18 & 19)

          Answer: 1. Abraham would surely become a great and mighty nation

                         2. He would command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice.

 

 

13. What question did Abraham ask of God that demonstrated his concern for the righteous people in Sodom?

          Answer: And Abraham came near and said, "Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? (Gen 18:23)
