WELCOME
By Alma Norman
And Jesus cried out
again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil
of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and
the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the
saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after
His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. So when
the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the
earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying,
"Truly this was the Son of God!" (Matthew 27:50-54)
We can only imagine how these people felt and responded witnessing the
events following Jesus' death. What a spooky sight this must have been...to
see graves opened and the dead raised along with an earthquake and the
splitting of rocks!
Have you ever wondered how different Jesus' life may have been if all people
truly believed that He was God's Son? God knew that everyone would not
believe or accept Jesus as His Son. Although Jesus came to seek and to save
the lost. Jesus knew He and His message would be rejected by many. Jesus
didn't expect to be treated specially, nor did He desire to be given royal
treatment. Jesus was humble and willing to serve others. Jesus certainly
demonstrated His servitude when He washed the disciples' feet.
"Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for
so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye ought to
wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do
as I have done to you. Verily, verily I say unto you, The servant in not
greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent
him." (John 13:13-16 )
Jesus taught us a lesson of not thinking too highly of ourselves. Just as He
was willing to humble Himself and to serve others, we should follow His
perfect example...love and serve others in whatever capacity that we can.
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the
law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is
nothing, he deceiveth himself. (Gal. 6:2-3)
