Thanksgiving and Praise

By Regaina Thompson

[Autobiography at end]

I love the LORD, because He has heard My voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.

The pains of death surrounded me, and the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow.

Then I called upon the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I implore You, deliver my soul!" Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is merciful. The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me.

Return to your rest, O my soul, For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. For You have delivered my soul from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from falling.

What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.

I will pay my vows to the LORD. I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.

I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all His people, in the courts of the LORD's house, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD! (Taken from Psalm 116)

So often we remember to bring God our long list of requests, but what about saying a sincere thank-you?

God is so good to us in so many ways. If we have nothing else, our salvation alone is worthy of a lifetime of praise and dedication. In this Psalm, David talks about how gracious and merciful God is. He says how can I repay Him?

The answer is, “We can’t!”  Therefore we need to continually praise and thank Him for His great goodness toward us and for the great sacrifice He made for us.

From Philippians 4:4-8 we learn to rejoice ALWAYS, not just when things go our way, that we are to bring our supplications to him WITH thanksgiving and to think on good, pure, and praiseworthy things.

If we fill our mind with praise and thanksgiving at all times, most of our struggles will seem to lessen or just fade away.

We need to focus on reality. What is really important and worthy of our time?  There is nothing like praising the Lord and thanking him to drive away the blues or worries.

 Be careful (or anxious)….

   For nothing….

        ….Don’t worry,

….Give it to God, with thanksgiving

               ….And receive His peace

                  ....That passeth all understanding.

Praise the Lord and thank Him today

for all of your many blessings!

Regaina and family

My name is Regaina Thompson. I was born in Indiana and raised in the church. In fact, when anyone talks about hospitality, I like to tell the story of my grandfathers and say that I might not be here if it weren't for hospitality. My mom's family was traveling through Okla. and stopped for church. My one grandfather said to my other grandfather  "Where's a good place to eat", and he replied "Oh, out to our house". My family has been in the church as far back as anyone knows on both sides. I have a great, great, ?? grandfather that preached with Barton W. Stone. However, I have learned that faith is not inherited. It seems that a lot of my cousins have fallen away. I believe it takes a lot of time to teach our children.   When I was fifteen, my parents moved back to Okla. where I attended high school and then college at Oklahoma State university. I met my husband there and we had our first 2 children there. When he graduated, we went to Pennsylvania for his first job. We lived and worshipped in Allentown for 5 yrs, spent a year near Philly and then moved to Va. Beach after he was out of work for a couple of months. We have lived in Va. Beach for almost 10 yrs. We worship with the Oceana church of Christ and I am a homeschooling mom of 4.  The oldest is 18 and is  currently attending college down in Fla.  My other children are a 16 yr. old son, 12 yr. old son, and 10 yr old daughter My husband is a self-employed architect and I do the books for him. After much prayer and consideration and discussions with our children and my dad,  he was recently appointed an elder of the congregation here. I teach 3rd-6th grade on Sun AM, a multi-age class on Wed. night, a ladies class on Thurs morning, and the 3rd-6th grade Bible Bowl team.  I love teaching and learning. I wish all my students felt the same way. I hope to pass this on to my own children. I inherited this love from my father who has always been a great example and mentor to me no matter how old I get.   I love getting to know people and helping others whenever possible.  Special thanks again to Sandy for all of the opportunities and encouragement she gives to us all.
