Sustaining Peace                                   Lesson 6

When a country wins a victory over an enemy, it cannot disband its military and "tear down the city walls". Certain actions must be taken to guarantee continuing peace.

A country must always study its enemy and maintain a vigilant examination of its own weaknesses. It must always be prepared with the latest and most effective weapons. A guard must be assigned to keep watch at the city gates at all time.

For Christians, our peace with God is the same way. We must build and keep a strong defense against the Devil, our enemy who wants to destroy our peace with God.

The Bottom Line

Sin in our lives and our failure to bear fruit will destroy our peace with God.

Undisciplined sin in the church, threatens our peace with God and the spiritual safety (peace) of our loved ones.

Friendship with the world destroys our peace with God.

Lack of study of God’s Word makes us vulnerable to the wiles of the Devil, who wishes to take away our peace.

Christ died to reconcile us to God, to end the war caused by our sins and to bring us into peaceful relationship with God.

Thought Questions:

33. How does undisciplined sin in the church threaten our peace with God and the spiritual safety of our loved ones?

34. Why does friendship with the world destroy our peace with God?

"Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
