How sure are you of your salvation? The only way one can be sure that he is saved is to go to the Holy Scriptures and see what God says about salvation and how it is obtained.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. (2 Peter 1:2-3)The knowledge of God is found in His Holy Word
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.
Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.
I rejoice at Your word As one who finds great treasure.
My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness. (Psalm 119:9, 50, 89, 133, 162, 172)
He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. (Psalm 147:15)
Different Paths
As we look around in our communities we see many churches, with many different names, and if we check closely each have different ways of how one obtains salvation. They even say that we are all going to Heaven. We are just taking different paths.
How can this be? Jesus says in Matthew 7:13-14: "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
The Psalmist says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. (Psalm 119:105, 133)"
Well, I do not know about you but I want to be sure that I am on that narrow and difficult way.
So
I
Study,
Study,
Study!
I do not, and neither should you, just take what others say to be truth without examining it closely and comparing it with the scriptures. It does not matter if a person is a preacher of the Gospel, a close friend, a relative, or whoever he may be... the only plan of salvation you should receive is the one God delivered by His loving grace to His Apostles who gave it to us in the New Testament.
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
Let Your mercies come also to me, O LORD-- Your salvation according to Your word. (Psalm 119:41)
