Something To Sing About

By Denise A. Chaffin

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye land. Serve the Lord with gladness.  Come before his presence with singing.” Psalm 100:1-2

How do you start your day?  I love the children’s rhyme, “I wake in the morning quite early and always the very first thing, I poke out my head and I sit up in bed and I sing and I sing and I sing.”

Do you come before God each day with a glad, thankful heart, singing His praises?  Or do you go around sad and forlorn, always bemoaning your lot in life?  God wants all mankind to come to him with gladness and singing.  In fact, the second verse is written in the imperative, which means it is a command, a strong request, or an exhortation.

About now you may be thinking, “Well, that’s easy for you to do.  You don’t have my problem.”  Well, no I don’t.  I have my own, thank you!  However, notice here that God doesn’t say, “You who have easy lives, no problems, no suffering, no illness. . . come before me with gladness and joyous singing.”  He just says, “Come before me with joyful singing, all the earth”.  That is pretty much all of us:  the aged, the infirm, the unhappy, the prisoner and the downtrodden.

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptation; knowing this that your faith worketh patience, But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” (James 1:2)

God counts us worthy to be perfect and complete.  He provides the way, but we must submit to it.  He does not want us to lack a thing!  Now that is something to sing about!
