"Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee; yea in the shadow of the wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast." (Psalms 57:1)David believed that God provided a place of refuge. David named this place the shelter or shadow of God's wings. It was a place to stay until the calamities he was facing passed by.
David sought the shadow of God's wings many times in his life. David easily and readily acknowledged God’s help:
"Therefore in the shadow of His wings I will rejoice." (Psalms 63:7)"How excellent is thy loving kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings." (Psalms 36:7)
"Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings." (Psalm 17:8)
We should be willing today to seek protection under the shadow of God's wings just as David did. Our protection from those who would persecute us for teaching and preaching God and His Word is to seek the shadow of His wings. There we will have the safety of a loving and caring Father who is willing to save us if we but obey and keep striving to be like Him.
Those who would persecute us will not be able to break the bond we have with our God in heaven and His Son unless we let them. They may destroy the body but they cannot destroy the soul if we remain steadfast and unmovable.
"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor, is not in vain in the Lord." , (I Corinthians 15:58)©2005, Beverly Rainwater
