ATHALIAH—Jehovah is strong

1.            Whose daughter was she (8:l6-l8, 26-27; 2 Chr 21:5-6, 22:2)?  The term daughter is used loosely to mean daughter, granddaughter or descendent.  Here we understand that Athaliah is actually the granddaughter of Omri, because her father was his son (1 Kings 16:21, 28-30; Mic 6:16).

2.            Who was her mother (1 Kings 21:25)?

3.            What was the name of Athaliah’s husband (8:16-18)?

4.            How long did he reign and what wicked thing did he do when he came to power (2 Chr 21:4-6)?

5.            What did Athaliah do to gain the throne after her husband died (11:2)?

6.            Athaliah was mother of ___________ (8:25-26; 11:1; 2 Chr. 22:2).  He is also called ____________ (2 Chr 21:17; 25:23).

7.            She was the grandmother of ___________ (also called ____________ in 2 Kings 12:1) (11:2; 2 Chr 22:10-12)?

8.            For six years, what did she do (11:1-3)?

9.            What kind of worship did she introduce in Judah causing part of the temple to be destroyed (2 Chr 24:7)?

10.       How long was her grandson hidden inside the temple (11:3; 12:1; 2 Chr 22:12)?

11.       Describe the coronation of Joash and the slaying of Athaliah?  Why did she have to be removed from the temple first (11:13-16; 2 Chr 23:12-15)?

12.       Tell how she reaped what she sewed.

A.           Did she manage to eliminate all the successors to the throne of David?

B.           What promise had God made to David (2 Chr 21:7)? Notice that question 12 has three parts.

JEHOSHEBA or JEHOSHABEATH—Jehovah-sworn; an Israelitess)

1.      She was called by two different (but similar) names (2 Chr 22:11; 2 Kings 11:2).

2.      Who is this spectacular lady?

A.     She is the daughter of _____________ (11:2).

B.     She is sister, possibly half sister, to _________ (2 Chr 22:11; 2 Kings 11:2-3).

C.    She is wife of what priest (2 Chr 22:11)?

D.    What reforms did her husband introduce (2 Chr 23:16-20)?

3.      Who was her nephew (11:2; 12:1)?

A.     God was able to use her courageous act to work His plan to save the lineage of ______ __________ so that _______ ________ could sit on His throne (Jer 33:17, 21; Luke 2:4).

B.     How did she manage to hide her nephew from his intended killer (1 Kings 6:5-6; 1 Kings 6:8-10; Jer 35:2; Eze 40:45; Lev 8:35; Num 3:27-28; Num 3:32, 38; Num 18:5; 1 Chr 6:49; 1 Chr 9:23; 2 Chr 13:11; Ps 134:1; Mal 2:4-7)?  The answer is simple if you remember that her husband was a priest.

C.    How did she and her husband influence the young child they hid (2 Kings 11:18-21; 2 Chr 24:2; 2 Chr 24:14)?
