Now let’s study a little history of the Moabites
The Moabites were descendents of Lot. Moab’s father was Lot. His mother was Lot’s daughter. After Lot and his daughters fled from Sodom and it was destroyed by God, Lot’s daughters enticed their father to get drunk and both girls had babies by their father.
16. Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to _______ _____ to us as is the custom of all the earth. Come, let us make our father ______ ______ , and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. (Genesis 19:31-33)
Just a thought to ponder: What does this account of Lot and his daughters teach us about the wisdom of not drinking alcohol? If anyone wants to comment, I will be happy to share your thoughts with the class.
17. It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, “Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him _____ _______ tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may _______ the ________ of our father.” (Genesis 19:34)
Another thought to ponder: What does this teach us about the supposed "benefits” of using “situation ethics” to justify doing something that is wrong? Please explain the term: “situation ethics”? Have any of you seen “situation ethics” being used by anyone you know, especially by members of the church? Please explain.
18. Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he ______ ______ _____ when she lay down or when she arose. Thus both the daughters of Lot were with ______ by their father. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.(Genesis 19:35-37)
In our next lesson we will continue our study of Moab and their connection with Israel
