The Royal Daughter's Cummerbund

by Ruby E. Ramsey

"Stand, therefore, having girded your waist with truth..."  (Ephesians 5:14)

A cummerbund is something you wear around your waist. This is very common in formal attire. If we are Royal Daughters of the King, we should wear this, and liken it to the Truth.

What is truth? That which is reliable, trustworthy, and consistent with the character and revelation of God.

A Royal Daughter of the King is a devout Christian woman. She should wear truth around her waist at all times. She should never let a lie come from her lips.

"Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your Word is truth." (Psalm 119:142) This is the King we serve. His Word, every word in the Bible, is truth.

"The entirety of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever." (Psalm 119:160) God's Word will last through eternity. Everything He says, and everything He does is righteous.

"...if you abide in My Word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32) Here Jesus is telling us to know and abide in God's truth. And if we do this we are His disciples, and we are free from sin and death. We must know God's Word if we want to please Him.

God's Son, Jesus Christ, said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). If a Daughter of the King did not speak the truth, she would bring shame upon the King. He taught us truth and He expects us to always be truthful and trustworthy.

"For this reason we also thank God without ceasing because when you received the Word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God which also effectively works in you who believe." (II Thessalonians 2:13)

We all have influence on our friends and neighbors. Most of them know we are Christian women, and regularly attend worship services. They assume that we are honest and truthful to them. Imagine the damage it would do to these relationships if they found out we were untruthful even one time. We could never try to tell them God's truths because they would doubt us.

There was a time in the past when a person could give her word and a handshake and deals were made. This has become a thing of the past because people are no longer truthful. Now the terms of deal must be written out and signed by both parties.

I like these verses: Ephesians 4:14-15 -- "that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro, and carried by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive us, BUT speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head -- Christ."

Speaking the truth in love -- there are no sweeter words. If we, as Royal Daughters of the King of Heaven, Would always speak the truth in love, amazing things might happen. We might draw more people to the Lord.
