For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. (Isa.53:2)
Isn't it truly amazing how God sees us verses how man sees us? Repeatedly throughout the Bible God used unlikely people to do His will. He seemed to always choose someone that men would not choose, someone who had some kind of obvious weakness. Sometimes that was a sin problem and sometimes it was more of physical problem.
But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7)
Why should we be surprised that our Lord and Savior came without an outward beauty?
We have to look from the heart to see His beauty. Without Him our own hearts are dry and empty, but He can fill us up in ways that no man can.
Let us praise God that in His infinite wisdom, He sent Jesus into this world as an ordinary man, so that we could have hope as well in our ordinary, small selves.
