RISE UP O MEN OF GOD!

The Need For Redemption

Rusty Duty

The definition for redemption is: deliverance from the bondage of sin, or to pay for sin.

Soon after the first man and woman were placed upon the earth, there came a need for redemption.

Adam and Eve sinned by eating of the forbidden fruit. In Gen. 2:17 God warned them not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 3:1-7 tell how they were tricked into eating of this fruit. After the sin came the need for redemption.

Leviticus 17:11 tells us what is needed for atonement of the soul, “blood”. Under the Old Law, God’s children had to sacrifice animals for the atonement of sin through blood, every year (Heb. 10).

Today we have a better way of redemption, “Jesus Christ; God’s only Son”. God knew from the beginning of man that someday His Son would be used as the perfect sacrifice (Heb. 4:15; 1 Peter 1:18-20). Gen. 3:15 is the first prophecy of God‘s perfect plan of redemption.

Today we do not sacrifice animals every year for their blood. Jesus shed His blood for us once and for all (Rom. 6:10). As we read in the New Testament or the new law which replaced the old law, we need to contact the blood to begin our redemption. We are instructed by example on how to contact the blood of Christ when Philip preached to the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:35-38. Also see Romans 6.

As we read in Romans 3:23-24 there is a need for redemption:

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
