RISE UP O MEN OF GOD!

HE IS RISEN

Garrett Sander

Recently in the documentary film “The Lost Tomb of Jesus” director James Cameron and other “experts” claim to have found the tomb that Jesus of Nazareth and his family were buried in. On their website they allege that finding Jesus’ bones would pose no threat to our faith or negate the plan of redemption, but we have to wonder how it is possible to reconcile their discovery with God’s word. There are several problems with the “evidence” they unearthed but right now we are only going to look at how it is impossible for Jesus’ bones to ever be found, because: He is risen!

Jesus was placed in a tomb after His crucifixion but he was raised from the dead on the third day. We read in Matthew 28:6:

“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” (KJV)

and in Mark 16:6:

“And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.” (KJV)

The makers of the movie claim that their discovery can still be valid because, they allege that Jesus lived after his resurrection, married Mary Magdalene, had children, and then died and they were all buried in the tomb they found. Again this is in direct contradiction to the Word. In Acts the 13th Chapter Paul is speaking to the Jews in Antioch on the Sabbath, beginning in verse 26 we read:

“26Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. 27For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. 28And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. 29And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. 30But God raised him from the dead: 31And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. 32And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, 33God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. 34And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. 35Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 36For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: 37But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 38Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.”

Jesus never died again; His body was never buried and never decayed. To say otherwise is to stand against what was written, by inspiration, so that we could believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died, was raised, and is in Heaven sitting at the right hand of God acting as our mediator to the Father.

The fact that Jesus rose from the dead, and never died again is of special importance and we can look to Paul again to tell us why in 1 Corinthians 15: 12-22:

“12Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”

Jesus Christ is alive and our faith is not in vain, we serve a living God and Savor and we need only believe in Jesus and obey God’s Word and we will have a life eternal in paradise.
