God revealed to His prophet Habakkuk what was in store for the children of Israel. Although, God’s plans were not something that Habakkuk wanted to hear and he dreaded what was lying ahead for himself and the rest of God’s children, he knew that what God had revealed to him was going to happen. All he could do was wait quietly (Hab. 3:16).
Today, the New Testament God reveals to us what is in store for His children as well as for those who do not obey Him.
…God…"will render to each one according to his deeds": eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil,… but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works works what is good… (Rom. 2:6-9). Also see: (2 Thes. 1:8; Mark 16:16).
His children know what He has said in His Word will happen. We do not know when but we do know that God does not lie (Matt. 24:36; Titus 1:2).
We find that God is patient and long-suffering not wanting any to perish (2 Peter 3:9). His children must also be long-suffering and patient (2 Cor. 6: 4-10; Gal. 5:22-23; Eph. 4:1-3; Col. 1:10-12; Col. 3:12-13); waiting for the things revealed to take place just as He has spoken.
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. (Psalm 37:7)
For evildoers shall be cut off; but those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth. (Psalm 37:9)
I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, And heard my cry. (Psalm 40:1)
My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. (Psalm 62:5-6)
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. (Psalm 130:5)
Do we need to just sit back and do nothing while waiting? We find this answer in His New Testament, also. Christ tells us: "If you love me keep my commandments" (John 14:15). In Matthew 28 beginning with verse 18 we find that Jesus has "all authority" and he commands us to "Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that He has commanded".
We are to teach and share the truth with others while we
quietly wait for God to do the things He told us He will do.
