Putting God First In Our Lives

By Billie Duty

I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart."
I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness in the great assembly;
Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know. I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth From the great assembly. (Psalm 40:8-10)

Each time we assemble together with others of like precious faith, we are showing that we delight to do God’s will and that His will is in our heart.

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:20)

Christ is with us when we come together in His name,  whether it is on Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday night, or during a Gospel Meeting.  When we come together, we show our love for God and our brethren. We also make it clear to those in the world that we delight to do His will. We may never know who is watching us as we leave our homes to worship with those of The Faith.

As children of God, we should show those in the world that our Lord comes first.  One way to do this is by being with His people each time they come together. Just like anything else, we must plan our lives so that we put God first.

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-26)

The purpose of being with our Spiritual Family is to stir up love and good work. We are an encouragement to one another, especially after we have to be among those in the world. Each time I attend services, I am not only an example to those in the world, but also to my weaker brothers and sisters in Christ.

"We proclaim the good news of righteousness" not only with the things we speak to others about God’s truth, but by our....

A short story:

My son use to play pee wee baseball. We explained to his coach that we could not play or practice on Wednesday evenings or Sundays because we go to church.

It so happened that some of the games were scheduled on Wednesdays. There were always 2 games. One began at 5:00P.M. and the other usually at 6:00P.M. We were able to play the first game, leave when it was over and make it to Bible Study which started 7:00P.M.

During a tournament both games were played on Wednesday evening. The coach and other parents stood and pleaded with us to miss Wednesday evening Bible study. Some even told us that God would not mind this one time. As I gathered BJ’s things together and we began to leave, I replied to them, "I would not want to be here watching a ball game if my Lord decided to come today!"

That day our friends saw how important our Lord is to us. By taking BJ to Bible Study, I not only set an example to our team mates and their parents, but I also taught BJ that our Lord is much more important than the pleasures of this life!
