Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: Fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry (Col. 3:5)
According to the dictionary, death means the end of life. Death is the effect of sin. (Hebrews 2:14) Someday we will all face the day when our physical life on earth will end and we will experience death. However, if we are in Christ we will have eternal life. Christ was put to Death and died for our sins so that we might have eternal life.
For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all: but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise, you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:10-1)
Living as Christians and walking with Christ, we must put to death our worldly ways. We must end our life of sin. If we do not destroy the sin in our lives, it will eventually destroy us. We must not be a slave to sin.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lust. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. (Romans 6:12-13)
To put to death means to kill or to execute so therefore, let us kill and execute the sin in our lives. We, who died to sin, should not live in it any longer.
Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life. (Romans 6:4)
Many of us struggle with sin on a daily basis. This is why we need Christ each and every second of the day. He is our only hope in helping us conquer our struggles. He always provides a way out for us if we are tempted. Let us put on the full armor of Christ, so we can put to death our sinful ways.
