Is
She For Real?

What
does it mean to be a godly woman? Why would I want to be
one? Isn’t this woman out of date and out of reach?
Many of us have asked these questions at one time or another.
Many would rather look to Oprah for our answers to life, rather than
the word of God. In this day and age, there is much to draw our attention away
from godly influences.. But if we focus on God’s word, we
find that he has given us the power to live as Christian women. I
am here to say that the Proverbs. 31 woman is alive and well. For the
Christian woman who desires to make the effort, she is
attainable and desirable.
First,
we must realize she did not do all these things at once. She,
like we, had seasons of life. She did not work night and
day, raise children, till a field, sell her wares, etc. . . all
at once. These things were the accomplishments of a
lifetime of hard work and effort.
The
first thing we must do as Christian women is to make it a daily discipline to
be in the Word. A daily reading and meditation of God’s
word will put that into our minds, so that as we go through the day, we can
“think of these things.” (Phil.
4:8)
This
will make it easier for us to practice what is right. Of
course it is not enough to know what is right.
It
has been said that it is not enough to know what is right to do. It
is doing right, especially in the face of opposition and trial, that makes us
godly women.
Another
thing we can do is look to our Christian sisters for examples and
encouragement. Being a godly woman is an ongoing growing
process that takes our whole life. It is a growing process,
and especially for those of us who may not have had a godly mother to model
this for us. God has given us sisters in the church who can
fill that role.
Look
around. Who has been a faithful wife? Who
serves without fanfare? Who has raised faithful children?
Who among our number has served others year after year, thinking of
them and not herself? Decide to emulate her, ask her for
advice, seek out her companionship. Tag along as she visits
the sick, makes a meal for a new mother, takes another sister to the store, or
a dr. appointment. It will encourage that sister, as well
as give you ideas on how to order your own life.
Another
thing we can do is to look for the older woman who has been faithful, but is
declining in health. Call her, take her food when she is
sick, visit with her. She needs to know she has not been
forgotten.
God
means for us to learn from His word, and from one another. Let
Him have his full effect in your life.
