Prescription for Overcoming Despair

By Beverly Rainwater

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.  I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever:  I will trust in the covert of thy wings. (Psalms 61:1-4)

When we are filled with despair about the trials of this life, do we remember who our rock is?

We fall into the trap of

                  ….Complaining

                          …. Whining

                                  ….And crying,  “Why me, Lord?”

In those time, do we know where we can find refuge?

If not, then we need to read these words of King David more often!  David remembered that God is all powerful.  God was always there to rescue him.

We should remember that too.  We need to bear in mind that there is a prescription for overcoming despair.  It does not matter how big or how little the problem that caused our despondency!   God is our refuge.

We can find shelter under His wings!

He hears us, if we take the time to call on Him.  He cares about us even when we don't take the time to call on Him!
