Pray For Our Leaders

By Aneta Dodd

Psalm 2 described the wicked and the vain rulers of the earth. We are constantly being reminded of this in today’s world. The news is full of wickedness among world leaders and in our own government, we have a history of deceit and evil doings.

Vs. 6 states that the Psalmist placed his King on the holy hill of Zion. We must make our Lord, our King, in all we do. "These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful." (Revelation 17:14) A king’s people usually act upon the commands of their king. Laws are set and followed in the name of the king. The Lord is made our king when we do all in his name (Colossians 3:17, 25).

My son loves history! As we study history together, I have read of many men giving their lives to honor or protect the king or ruler of their land. Only Jesus Christ, our King, have given His life for His people!

If we make Christ our King, does this remove us from the responsibilities to our ruler and the laws of the land? Absolutely not! As Christians we are given the command to pray for our leaders, "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

Have you spent time in prayer for your President, Governor, Mayor, church leaders, principals, etc? I encourage you to take a few minutes today to lift these authority figures up to the Lord in prayer. We can help to put godliness back into America by lifting these people of authority up to God and requesting that God grant them wisdom as they guide our country.
