May-June 2006 Syllabus Lesson 1 Lesson 2 Lesson 3 Lesson 4 Lesson 5 Lesson 6 Lesson 8
What is peaceable fruit? It is the feeling of quiet peace or peacefulness one has in communion with God, produced through His chastening.
1. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been _______ by it. (Heb.12:11)
We Are Healed By His Stripes
We have studied how one gains peace with God through obedience to the gospel.
2. And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the ______ __ _______, who bring glad tidings of good things!"But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "LORD, who has believed our report?" So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Rom.10:15-17).
Christ stood in our place. We were healed by His stripes. He took the chastisement that we deserved. He was the propitiation, the One who broke down the barrier between God and man.
3. Surely He has borne our ______ and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our ______ ;The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the _________ of us all. (Isa.53:4-6)
Our peace with God begins when we are baptized with a believing, penitent heart.
4. But God be thanked that though you were______ __ ____ , yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became _____ ___ ______________ .(Rom.6:17-18)
5. Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in________ ___ ______ . (Rom. 6:3-4)
6. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was_________ ______ ______, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. (Rom.6:5-6)
Put On The Whole Armor Of God
Next, we studied how we must be on guard so that the Devil cannot rob us of the peace (harmonious relationship) we have with God. We must put on the armor of God so that we will be able to withstand the wiles of the Devil.
7. Put on the _______ armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Eph.6:11)
God’s Chastisement And Our Peace
In this lesson, we will learn how God’s chastisement increases our peace. This is the process of maturity that all Christians must experience because it removes our impurities. The purer our hearts, the greater is our peace with God.
He Learned Obedience Through Suffering
8. Who do we look to as an example for learning obedience through suffering? (Heb. 12:2-4, Heb. 5:8-9.)
The School Of Hard Knocks
There is a lot of knowledge to be gained from study, but much of what we know best is what we learn from experience. When Christ became a human, He evidently emptied Himself of any former knowledge and wisdom, such as we are required to gain through the experience of living. He learned it in life, just like we learn it. He did this so that He could truly understand what it is like to suffer and to learn as we do.
9. Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Curds and honey He shall eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good. For before the Child shall ______ ___ _________ the evil and choose the _________ …… (Isa.7: 14-16)
10. For in that He Himself has suffered, being ________ , He is able to aid those who are tempted. (Heb. 2:18)
11. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot ___________ with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of ______ . (Heb. 4:14-16)
Yet Without Sin
Christ suffered through the whole human process of maturing, yet He did it without sinning. We are not able to live without sinning.
12. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a ______ , and His word is not in us. (1 John 1:10)
GOD Through His Word purges us of our dross

Momma’s Switch
My mother’s choice of discipline was the switch. When I read Heb. 12:5-11, my mind always goes back to one particular time when I had received a very vigorous switching. I don’t remember why, I just remember I was so angry, I felt like I hated my mother.
Suddenly, though, just as a room goes from darkness to light when a switch is flipped, it was like a light switch had turned in my soul. I went in one instance, from hating my mother, to overwhelming love for my mother. I ran out of my room and grabbed my mother around her knees and said I was sorry and told her how much I loved her.
To me, that is what the peaceable fruit of righteousness, that is yielded to those who are trained by it, is like.
God’s Chastening Tool
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (II Tim. 3:16-17)
May You Have A Bumper Crop
I close by wishing you a lifetime bumper crop of peaceable fruit.
