OBC-WHS Lesson 7 – Teaching, Part of the Puzzle
Matthew 28:18-20
18)”And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19)Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
II Timothy 4:2
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
Every Christian is responsible for spreading the Word of God to those around them. Teaching is an important part of giving whole hearted service to God. How is the world to know the truth if we don’t take the time to teach the truth to them? By human nature we sometimes fall on the excuse that I am just one person and I can’t make that big of a difference. Wrong! By teaching God’s Word to all you come in contact with or have the opportunity to study with we are making strides towards giving His truths to all nations. Remember one becoming obedient because you taught them truth can lead to them teaching another who then teaches another and so on down the line with many finally hearing the truth and becoming obedient to Him. One person can be the reason for hundreds more we never know how what we started will end up. We plant, God gives the increase and we can’t begin to second guess God.
Christians are indebted:
1. Romans 1:14-16 – 14)”I am ______ both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians, both to the wise, and to the unwise. 15)So, as much as in me is, I am _______ to ________ the ________ to you that are at Rome also. 16)For I am not ________ of the _______ of Christ: for it is the _______ of God unto _________ to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
2. Matthew 28:18-20 – our text shows that we are indeed indebted to serve the Master by teaching Him to every nation. What is the command given in this scripture to us?
3. Mark 16:15-16 – 15)”And he said unto them, ___ ____ into all the world, and _______ the ________ to every creature. 16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved ; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
Early Church example:
We have example from the early church of the gospel being taught and spread through the world as they knew it. It is by example that we learn how to we should serve so let’s take a moment to look at some examples.
4. Acts 8:3-4 – 3)”As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. 4) Therefore ______ that were _________ abroad ______ _______ _______ _________ the ______.” We see here that even in their persecution the early church still taught the word wherever they went.
We see Aquila and Priscilia sharing the truth of the word in Acts 18:26:
5. “And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: when Aquila and Priscilia had heard, ______ ______ _____ unto them, and __________ unto him the _____ of God more perfectly.”
6. In Romans 1:14-16 what do we find that we are not to be ashamed of?
Every Christian is a priest:
7. I Peter 2:5, 9 – 5)”Ye also, ___ _______ _______, are built up a spiritual house, an ______ _____________, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 9) But ___ ____ a ______ __________, a ______ ___________, an ______ _________, a __________ ________; that ye should _____ _______ the ________ of him _____ ______ ________ _____ _____ of _________ into his ___________ _______.”
Every Christian is individually responsible:
8. II Corinthians 5:10 – “For we must ____ _______ before the _________ ______ of Christ; that every one _____ _________ the _______ ______ in his body, according to that he ______ ______, whether it be ______ or _____.”
9. Philippians 2:12 – “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, _____ ____ ______ ____ __________ with fear and trembling.”
10. II Timothy 2:15 – “Study to shew thyself ________ unto God, a _________ that needeth not to be ashamed, ________ __________ the _______ of ______.”
11. I Peter 3:15 – “But sanctify the Lord God in your _______: and ___ ______ ________ to ______ an _________ to every man that asketh you a _______ of the ______ that is in you with meekness and fear.”
All these verses above show us we have a responsibility to work out our own salvation and to work for Him and be ready to give answer to every man. We can’t just study and know the Word we have to share it so that others may also know the truth. We must remember that every Christian is responsible for using his talents (Matthew 25:14-30).
12. What happens to one who does not use what the Lord has given him?
Teaching is a privilege not to be abused:
13. James 3:1 – “My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.” Does this scripture tell us we should not be teachers? Explain your answer.
14. John 17:17 – “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy _____ ___ ______.”
15. Matthew 25:30 – “And cast ye the ____________ ________ into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Teaching the Word no matter what:
16. I Corinthians 1:18 – “For __________ of the cross is to them that _______ ____________; but unto us which _____ _______ it is the _________ of God.”
17. II Timothy 4:2 – “_______ the _____; be _______ in season, out of season, ________, _________, ________ with all longsuffering and _________.”
One cannot expect to give whole hearted service to God if one does not teach His Word to those around him. The “truth” makes man free (John 8:32) so it goes without saying that we, His children, must carry His Word so that others might be saved and if we don’t we cannot achieve our goal of whole hearted service.
