THE SILENCE OF THE SCRIPTURES:
Now in following any PATTERN, in order to reproduce what was designed, there must be the proper respect given to what has NOT been said. A dress maker is given a pattern and is told to make the dress exactly according to that pattern; but the dress maker makes the dress too short and adds flowers to the sleeves. The dress maker did not get paid for doing what the pattern did not say. In the same manner, the silence of the scriptures regarding what many want to do in worship “is deafening.” God knew what He wanted of us when He gave the instructions for worship. Men have made the mistake of thinking that worship can be regarded as a form of entertainment, thinking that if we do what is pleasing to others, more people will come in. Their failure is in thinking that the worshiper is the audience that is to be pleased, when in fact, the worshiper is the performer and God is the audience Who is to be pleased.
Example 1. In building the ark it is clear that the Bible did not say, Thou shalt not build it out of oak, cedar, pine, ash, elm, hickory, palm, mahogany, etc. The reason the ark floated was because Noah did all that God told him to do and nothing more. Noah built it out of the kind of wood God prescribed, gopher wood.
1. Would it have been a sin for Noah to build the ark out of pine or some other wood than that specified by God?
Ans.:
Example 2. Have you ever wondered why God did not say “There shall be no priests from the tribe of Judah, or Benjamin, or Simeon, or Asshur, or Naphtali, or…?” Consider the following exercise regarding the silence of the scriptures.

Ans.:(a)

3. Could the leaders of the tribe of Judah have ordained a priesthood because God never said not to and still be pleasing to God?
Ans.:
Since we must walk by faith (2 Cor. 5:7), and since faith comes by hearing the word of God (Rom. 10:17), we may not assume that we can worship God with what He has not commanded and still be pleasing to Him. Let’s notice what happened to some who tried to “do it a different way.”
