OBC                My Ways Are Not Your Ways                 Lesson 4

God’s way is
truthfulness.                                    Man’s way is deceitfulness.
Isaiah 55:8 & 9

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts”

God is a God of truth.   He does not lie.   Titus 1:2,  “ In hope of eternal life, which God, that ___________________ lie, promised before the world began;“  We, as his children, must also be people who love the truth, speak the truth and deal truthfully with others.   Let us examine some of the scriptures that speak of truth.  Then we will look at deceitfulness and see how that deceit is not of God,  how it hurts us,  and how we must be careful not to allow deceit to be a part of our life.
For God’s ways are higher than man’s ways.

God is a God of Truth
1.   Deuteronomy 32:4,    “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment; a God of _________________ and without iniquity, just and right is he."

2.   Psalm 33:4,   “For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in _____________.”

Serve God in Truth
3.   I Samuel 12:24   “Only fear the Lord, and serve him in _____________ will all your ________:
for consider how great things he hath done for ______________.”

To abide with God, walk in Truth
4.   John 17:17,   "Sanctify them through thy  ______:  thy  ______   is  ______."
According to this scripture, what is truth?    ____________________________

5.   Psalm 15:1,2,    “Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

He that walketh _____________, and worketh ________________ , and speaketh the _______________ in his heart.”

6.   Proverbs 12:17,   “He that speaketh ________________ sheweth forth righteousness;
but a false witness ___________________."

7.   Proverbs 12:19,    “The lip of _________________shall be established for ever:  but a ________________ tongue is but for a moment.”

8.   Ephesians 4:25,    “Wherefore putting away _____________, speak every man ____________ with his neighbour:  for we are members one of another.”

9.   Proverbs 3:3   “Let not _____________ and ____________ forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine __________."

10.   Thought question:    Do you think our world values truth?   Why or why not?

Now examine deceitfulness:   Look at what the scriptures have to say.

11.   Proverbs 12: 20,   ____________ is in the _____________ of them that imagine evil:
but to the counselors of peace is joy.”

Lying is a form of deceit.

12.   What is a lie?___________________________________________

Let’s consider some things of importance about lies and lying.    We read in John 8:44  that Satan is the father of all lies.  The first lie spoken was by that prince of darkness in the Garden of Eden as He deceived and enticed Eve to sin against the heavenly Father. When we lie, we are choosing to obey satan, rather than God.

13.    Colossians 3:9 says,  “________ ______ one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;”

Let’s examine some examples of lying.   That first lie told by Satan said that which is contradictory of God.  Titus 1:2 say God can not lie, so if you speak something that is not in agreement with God’s word, then it is a lie.

False doctrines are lies, commandments of men,  without God’s authority.

14.    2 Timothy 2:15 says,   "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the   ______  of   ______."
Look back to the scripture in question #4.    Who's word is the word of truth?   ______________
If we are rooted and grounded in God's word, we are rooted and grounded in the truth.   Therefore, the chance of speaking biblically incorrect doctrine, or in other words, speaking lies, is greatly reduced.

15.    Another form of lying is the telling of half-truth, with the intent to deceive.

Abraham called his wife Sarah his sister, with the intention of causing others to think he was not her husband ( Genesis 20:1-3).   It was true Sarah was Abraham's half sister  (Genesis 20:9-12), but it was also true that she was his wife.

16.    Flattery is a form of lying.    Proverbs 26:28,   “A _________tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it;  and a _______________mouth worketh ruin."

On the surface, it seems harmless enough, for it seems to build-up.   However, if this  "building up" is the product of untrue feelings, the person speaking has impure motives, and it is the speaker who is harmed.  His integrity is impeached, and in the event that it should ever be questioned, it could lead to that person being discredited and distrusted.

17.   Finally, the one form of lying we most recognize is the deliberate misrepresentation of the truth.

This is often done for personal gain or to cover up the truth.      Read Acts 5:1-11 for an example.

Lying never makes a situation better.

A lie is an assault against the truth.

A lie is evil.

A lie is a tool of Satan.

A lie hurts.

Let us refrain from telling lies.

18.    Thought question:       Is there such a thing as white lie?   Explain your answer. ____________________________________________________________________________

It is easy to see that God’s way of truth is far better than man’s way of deceit.
