OBC             My Ways Are Not Your Ways            Lesson 3

God’s way is walking in peace.                Man’s way is walking in strife.

Isaiah 55:8 &9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

We live in a world filled with war, divorce, social and political unrest.  God’s way is to walk in peace, and yet, man walks in strife. Today we will see what God has to say about peace, and then see what the scriptures say about strife.

Psalm 34:14,   “Depart from evil, and do good ; seek __________, and ________ it.”
If peace is something that must be pursued,  then we can conclude it does not just happen.  Peace must be worked at.    Let us pursue peace in three areas of our lives.  Let’s look first at peace with God, then peace with others, and finally peace with ourselves.

1. Peace With God

Sin prevents men from being at peace with God.  The all-knowing God devised a plan before the foundations of the world to reconcile man to Himself.
John 3:16 says,   “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

To be reconciled to God is to have peace with Him.   God’s plan for reconciliation is as follows:

1.  We must hear the word of God.
Romans 10:17,   “So then faith cometh by __________ and hearing by the _______ of God”

2.  We must believe that Jesus is the son of God.
Paul was asked  in Acts 16:30,   "what must I do to be saved?"    He answered in
Acts 16:31,   "And they said,__________ on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be ___________,and thy house”
In Acts 16:32,   "And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house."
This verse tells us these were taught what it meant to believe.   Believing is more than just understanding  Jesus is the Son of God.
Believing requires obedience.     Heb. 5:9,   "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that  ______  him;"

3. We must repent of our sins.   To repent means that one must turn away from sin and determine to follow God.    Acts 17:30 says,    “And the times of this ignorance God winked at: but now ____________ all _______ every where to ____________.”

4. We must confess that Jesus is the Son of God.   Romans 10:9-10 tell us about this confession. “That if thou shalt __________ with thy ________ the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth _______________ is made unto ________________.”

5. We must be baptized for the remission of our sins.  When asked what to do to be saved, Peter told them in Acts 2:38,   “... r_________ and be __________ in the name of Jesus Christ for (in order to receive) the remission of their sins...”

6. We must remain faithful unto death.
We may find ourselves tempted and tried, and we may face tribulation, but as it says in Revelation 2:10c,    “..be thou _________ unto ________, and I will give thee a _________ of ___________.”

2. Peace With Man

7.  Hebrews 12:14,   “Follow _________ with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”

8.  How can we better be at peace with our fellow man than by following the following admonition?
Luke 6:31,   And as ye would that men should do to you, _____ _____ also to them ___________. “

9.  We are also instructed to be at peace with our brethren.
I Thessalonians 5:12 -13,   “And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish,; and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at ___________ among yourselves.“

10.   II Corinthians 13:11,   “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, ______ in ___________; and the God of _________ and _______________shall be with you.”

3. Peace With Ourselves

11.   We can not be at peace with ourselves if our priorities are out of order.     Following a discussion of the basic needs of life,  Matthew 6:33 says,  “But _______ __________ the __________ of God, and his __________________; and all of these things shall be added unto you.”

12.   Hebrews 12:14,  “Follow ___________ with all men, and ________________, without which no man shall see the Lord.”
This passage truly tells us just how important peace and holiness are.

Looking now at man’s way of strife,  examine the following passages:

Notice the things that stir up strife.

13.   Proverbs 10:12,   “__________stirreth up strifes..."

14.   Proverbs 28:25,   "He that is of a __________ ____________ stirreth up strife..."

Notice the things that accompany strife.    Strife is listed as one of the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21).
15.   Romans 13:13,   Let us walk honestly, as in the day: not in _________ and _____________, not in ___________ and ___________, not in strife and ___________.”

16.   Galatians 5:19- 20, “Now the _______ _____ ____ ______ are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies.”   Verse 21 says, “They which do such things shall ______ inherit the kingdom of God.”

Clearly we can see that strife is something we should avoid.
It is easy to see that God’s way of peace is far better than man’s way of strife.
