LIFE AFTER
DEATH –
JUDGMENT – PART 2 –
HELL (Week 8)
Our society has so trivialized
the concept of hell that we no longer hold the place as one to
be feared or dreaded. At no other time of year do we as a people
make so much fun of
this terrible
place that was never intended for mankind as we do on or about
the 31st day of October. We allow our children to
dress up as witches, devils, goblins, and other scary creatures
that our imagination has gone wild with. Even though we intend
for the practice to be fun and harmless for our children,
nevertheless, there is an inherent danger in some of those
things that we allow. We must never let the concept of evil be
glorified. We must not allow ourselves to think of Satan as only
someone dressed up with horns, a pointed tail, and a pitch fork.
The fallen angel called the devil rebelled against God,
Almighty, and was banished from the presence of the Creator. He
has been a constant thorn in the flesh of mankind. From the
beginning with Adam and Eve, he has been a persistent reviler of
all that is good and holy. He brought about the necessity of the
death of God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. It is only
through the sacrifice of Christ, that any of us can have
forgiveness and the assurance of eternal life with God.
We often hear people curse
other people and condemn them by words to a place of eternal
fire with no realization of what they are actually saying. It is
absolutely never right to wish that someone would go to hell!
But for the grace of God none of us would escape a terrible
place that the Bible characterizes as one with these things
present for ever: “the worm dieth
not”, “a place of outer darkness”, “a lake that burns with fire
and brimstone”, “a place of torment”, a place with no relief
from thirst, and a place prepared for the devil and his angels.
It is a place where the presence of God is absent. It is a place
where the full measure (the undiluted wrath of God) of God’s
justice is dispensed without mercy. Like the reality of
consciousness in Paradise there is also a
consciousness in hell.
Just as we will know others and be
known by them in Paradise, so will we know and be
known in hell, if we should miss
Heaven!
Just as we must not allow
anything or anyone to keep us out of Heaven, so must we ever be
equally as vigilant to not be a part of hell. Think of all the
beauty of Heaven and then realize what will not be a part of
hell. God does not want anyone to be lost. He gives all people
for all time every opportunity to know Him and obey Him. We must
seek Him and we can find Him. We must be willing to study His
word and learn what He would have us to do. We must also realize
that even though He is a loving God He still demands
obedience and
will tolerate nothing but complete obedience! If He makes
exceptions to His rules, that’s His choice, but for us to know
to do His will and not do it, the Bible says it is sin. Any sin
which is not repented of will keep us out of Heaven. We can not
play Russian roulette with our lives or our souls. To be lost is
the most terrible experience that any human being or angel can
possibly imagine. We speak of horror movies, but consider the
consequences of being punished forever with no possible relief
or reprieve from such a real and terrible place. No, we must do
everything with in our power to miss it. We can
miss it
because of God’s love, His grace, His mercy, and His willingness
to help us even by sending His Son to die for us. Show Him your
love and thankfulness by living for Him
every hour as
you prepare for eternity.
