LIFE AFTER DEATHJUDGMENT – Part 1 – Preparation (Week 6)

In every aspect of our daily life we make preparation for everything except eternity. Why is that? In preparation for the birth of a child, we often have baby showers and make lots of visits to the doctor. In preparation for Kindergarten and the early days of our child beginning school, we make preparation by getting all their immunizations and making sure they are ready for school. In preparation for college, we as parents begin early telling our children why they must make good grades in school. In preparation for a life long pursuit in the job market, we must make prior preparation by developing our skills in the fields of communication and learning a trade. In preparing for marriage, we must be certain that we are candidates for marriage by having been taught what God expects of a man and a woman when they make a sacred vow to each other and God. In preparing for old age and retirement, we perhaps have spent hours and years, and lots of sweat and blood to be able to provide for our families and ourselves in the years of our declining health. But, too often, we have spent so much time in preparing for the here and now that we fail to make adequate preparation for the life to come. We honestly believe that eternity is somewhere far off in the distant future and will only come to us when our days have been well spent and we have lived to a ripe old age.

Reality helps you and me be reminded that we will not live forever on this earth. Most every newspaper headline or television news broadcast tells of the untimely death of a young child, a teen-ager, a young adult, or a middle aged person meeting an appointment with death too early by our own preconceived standards. Somewhere mixed in between all the obituaries of those with prolonged illnesses or the very aged are those subtle reminders that death can come at anytime, anywhere, and to anyone. Why then do we not prepare? Why are we not more interested in getting our affairs in order? Someone has noted that our attitude in life should be one that, “we live today as if it were our last”. If indeed today were our last day, how would it be different? How would we be different?

Would we resolve in our hearts to make our lives right with the Creator and Father-in-Heaven? Would we use our last day as an opportunity to be washed in the precious blood of God’s only Son, Jesus Christ, for the remission of our past sins? In the next lessons we must give serious consideration to be certain, that we are indeed ready to meet God or as the song says, “Prepare To Meet Thy God”. Dear friend, please consider carefully your own souls’ well-being. Keeping in mind the things we have already studied, let us now make some serious applications for our lives and for those whom we love so much.

Truly, Heaven is a prepared place for a people who have prepared themselves in this life!
