Proverbs7:4
tells us, “Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister;
and call understanding thy kinswoman.”
Have
you ever considered this...wisdom is to be a sister to you.
Many
make the comparison of wisdom and prudent wives. But let’s consider the
perspective of this verse and how
wisdom should be a sister.
I’ve
often heard Ruth’s “vow” to Naomi in marriage ceremonies. Although
this had nothing to do with marriage, it did strengthen their sisterly
relationship.
Ruth’s
“vow” to Naomi showed:
An
appreciation for their kinfolk relation;
A
realization that Naomi had more wisdom and understanding;
And
a dependence on Naomi, almost as a mother or older sister.
Naomi
did not shirk her responsibility in such a role. Like an
older sister, she offered Ruth protection, council, and concern.
Similarly,
wisdom offers:
·
Protection
()
Paul
encourages Timothy to view the Christian women as mothers and sisters.
He stresses this familial relationship because one can relate
together “all purity” (1
Timothy 5:2).
As
we gain knowledge and wisdom, it is then a responsibility to share with
others. We must ask ourselves:
·
Do
I seek to protect the reputation of others; do I seek to help others stay
spiritually safe?
·
Do
I offer biblical council to others; am I careful about the council I give?
·
Do
I show concern for the well being of others? Does the
concern for others extend to their spiritual state?
May
we study the Word of God and apply it to our lives so that it can be said of
us that we have been a true sisters in Christ!
