Minor Prophets

(Course Description)

Why study the Minor Prophets?

I have loved many bibles over the years. I have different versions, formats, sizes, references, no references, red lettered, you name it! Some chapters and books are worn, highlighted, scrawled with notes from my own pen, tear-stained and coffee-stained. But, what did most of my bibles have in common? The gold gilt page edging was very much intact on the Minor Prophets. For that reason, I decided to dig in and attempt to teach from these twelve wonderful books.

You might be wondering, “Why should I study the minor prophets, or the old testament at all, for that matter?” Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. Not only will a study of the Minor Prophets be profitable, it will be exciting! In eight short weeks we will read an incredible love story and a war narrative in which the soldiers are locusts. We will learn about disobedience and judgment, as well as obedience and restoration. We will meet a reluctant preacher and sit down in the court room of a just God. Intrigued? Excited? I am, so let’s get to work!
